Those who follow me on Facebook know (if you don't - shame of you! click "like" button right now!) that one of my clients reported that he has problems with ACTi bullet cams (D31 and D32).
According to him, there is some problem with housing - it is not waterproof and the water is condensing inside the camera, resulting in "foggy unclear" vision and probably damage to camera.
I installed some of those cams myself and they survived realy big storms here in Poland, without any problems.
But I thought that this is some good excuse to do some fun testing :D
So I prepared camera. First thing, make sure that all seals are on place and are tighten.
Warranty void if seal is broken! |
Don't forget to put silica gel bag inside camera! If you don't, you will just trap some water vapor inside sealed camera, especially in humid environments. You just need something that will absorb it.
D32, don't forget to put silica gel inside! |
I used special silica gel that will change color to blue, if it gets any water.
When you install camera pointing down, remember to put some isolator on screws on the back of cam.
And thats it!
Testing
Ok, now best part. How to test this? Install it outside and wait for heavy rain? Nahhh to boring and it will take too much time! I know, lets....
Test #1
...put them in the 30 minutes massage shower bath (10 °C water) :D
But some of you would say that this is easy, this is not real waterproof test and thats why...
Test #2
... I used dishwasher! Yeah, over 1h bath in dishwasher Eco program (40°C). And yes, I've got video from inside :P
I hope warranty will cover this... |
But that is not enough. We need to check if there is any water vapor inside camera so for the final test lets...
Test #3
... heat it up to 50 °C and close it in to the fridge (-10 °C) for 1h!
Wanna know how it was done? Just check this video:
Results
Camera was dry as bone. No water vapor, no moisture. ACTi cams ARE waterproof!
Of course I could just check ACTi Partner Zone, and download IP66 testing documents from there...
But where is fun it that, right ;)
It rubs the lotion on its skin... |
..or else it gets the hose again! |
If you are interested in some other tests, post info here or on my facebook page. Thanks for subscriptions!
